Louisville, KY's old sirens coming down

Three of our sirens that I know of, all Thunderbolts, have been taken down within the last month or two, and two of them have been replaced with 2001-130's, while the location of the other Thunderbolt currently has an empty new pole. Sadly, it looks like Louisville may have finally gotten the money to replace their sirens. Sirens that have come down so far include the Thunderbolts at Bowen Elementary and Crosby Middle Schools, and the Thunderbolt at the Louisville Water Company in Crescent Hill. I found out from Trocks797 (Loukycheckinin about the Bowen and Crosby Thunderbolts, and Jon and I found out about the Water Company Thunderbolt when we tried to record it this past test day.

Well, at least they made a good run at keeping them going. They were one of the only municipalities that I was aware of that actually bothered to take down, repair, and reinstall their old Thunderbolt sirens on a large scale like that.

Wish they would have went with 508s, but 2001s good too with their battery backups. RIP Thunderbolts of Louisville, KY.

They haven't all been decommissioned yet and there is still quite a few left standing in operating condition... there just slowly phasing them out in favor of a new system is my guess.. i hate the fact that in crescent hill there is no more active thunderbolts as they have all now been replaced with 2001's. i know that if they go up for auction (i.e the old thunderbolts) i would like to snag a few select sirens from our city's system.

I hope someone gets a hold of the t bolts at Wilder Elementary and Zachary Taylor Elementary, as those have those awesome lightning bolt emblems on the sides of the horn.

Do you know what years/why Federal put these logos on their sirens?

I'm pretty sure it was a custom thing they did themselves.
