5/18/1959: Civil Air Patrol demonstrates airborne sirens

A small airplane flies over Roanoke County farmland in a Civil Air Patrol demonstration of a new means of alerting citizens to imminent attack.
Just thought I'd share this neat little tidbit from the WSLS-TV archives I found earlier today. It's a unique concept...but it clearly didn't spread, considering that nobody here has a Piper Cub sitting next to their Thunderbolt.

Something like a Junkers Ju 87/Stuka siren?

All aircraft sirens I have seen were 28v versions of standard electronic vehicular sirens. Even Whelen makes sirens specifically for aircraft (http://www.whelen.com/aviation/category.php?head_id=16). 1959 was awhile back, but there were still some primitive electronic sirens back then. Also, I believe Roanoke installed a system of Thunderbolts as well.
