ademco 12v siren

ok my first siren off ebay. got it working in less than a minute out of the box. points on contact needed cleaning.

name that siren! hint: ademco all i know about it.

I'm assuming this is the one that was "For Parts" on Ebay for the past 5 months?

What I know about them includes:

They are 12 volt, 9 amp sirens. They will run fully on 2 amps, though.
They were made in a horizontal and vertical version. You have to horizontal, the vertical is very rare.
They were made in the 1960s, and were the 1960s version of a Military-grade car alarm, to my knowledge.
They are 8 port only, and were made in Manhattan (or somewhere close).
Later models had the resistor in them, earlier models just had the relay.
The chopper is a little shorter than that of a Model A, so the output is lesser than a Model A.

These sirens don't really have "names" of sorts. They are just referred to as Horizontal/Vertical Ademco sirens.

I have a vertical one. The motor and rotor are identical to yours, but instead of a base and screen, the whole thing is mounted inside a bullet-shaped housing and looks like this:

a few more questions. why is there a relay? this one has the resistor. underneath the relay is a white piece with ademco on it. what does this thing do? i cannot see why there is a relay when the wires run from it to the motor. any literature for this siren?

Since these were intended as burglar alarms, the relay was probably used so that the alarm circuit could trip the siren without requiring a large current draw.
