Why are dual toned sirens no longer made?

I've been wondering for awhile now in regards to dual toned sirens no longer being produced, why is that? Were they more expensive to produce, caused longer production time? I apologize if it's a general question answered thousands of time, but I'm just curious

Sentry still makes dual toned sirens. I believe most companies stopped producing them because they were more expensive to produce than single toned sirens, they weren't as loud as single toned sirens, and Civil Defense wasn't around to require that dual toned sirens had to be made.

I want to try and answer this and please correct me if I am wrong. During all of the wars fire sirens were still the prime communication standard of most all fire departments. I believe that I read somewhere on here that civil defense sirens were required to have a different sound so dual tone was implemented as a way to distinguish between an attack raid and a fire. Again, please correct me if I am wrong.

To be honest with you Thun, dual tones are still made. Sentry Sirens could be considered dual tone and if the ASC Cyclone is still produced, it's a dual tone. The Modulator is also capable of a dual tone.

I though ACA/ASC Cyclone sirens were discontinued. I remember reading it somewhere on here.

They were discontinued back around 2006 I believe.

Why is the Cyclone still on their website then? I heard they make a differentish one now that sounds more like a tempest, but havent seen any proof of it

I think they're only on the site for parts/maintenance.

There are several companies around the world currently producing Carters-style 10/12 sirens, because in many countries (especially in the British Commonwealth) the minor-third interval is instantly recognizable as an alarm siren. Many continental European countries require their sirens to sound at a particular pitch as well.

I think FS still sells Modulators, DSAs,... UV controllers that run in dual tone mode stock and have read somewhere that some ASC electronic siren controllers have the ablilty to run in dual tone; don't quote me on that thogh. A LOT of electronic sirens in Germany are dual tone and run at around 415/425Hz (creepy as hell!!!). This makes me wonder if Whelen could make a dual tone controller upon request.
