Crystal Springs, Mississippi Siren

Thu Dec 19, 2013 6:02 am

I believe this photograph was taken in Crystal Springs, Mississippi in the late 1940s. On the pole in the background, you can see what appears to be a Federal siren. I took a quick look on Google Earth, and the town has changed so much over the past 65 years. More than likely this siren has been replaced.

Amazingly enough, this siren is still standing, albeit on a new pole. On Google Earth, if you look behind the FasTax at 200 S. Jackson Street, it's sits on top of a pole. I have a feeling they still use the siren for fire or weather warnings.
