SD-10 Revisited and Some Things I Found Online

The sirens here in Columbus didn't test on Saturday @ 12:00. There was a function going on downtown for MLKJ that started at that time, so I guess the EMA made a last minute decision to put the test on halt. Figured I'd revisit the SD-10 on the CSU campus. Once I got there, I flipped the panel that was on the ground over and was greeted by an ant's nest:




I was going to hit the test button on the controller and make some noise until I seen this:

I would love to fix this siren up and give it to the college as a warning system, the CD Museum downtown, or a town in need of one… or own it have revenge on the neighbors for blasting their music late at night, give them taste of their own medication *over does it... hears police sirens * … I like the last one better

After my "fun" I got online to see why the sirens didn't sound, but couldn't find anything even on the EMA page. As a matter of fact, WTVM even posted on their site that the function downtown would begin as the sirens would be set off... nothing at all Upset and confused I surfed the web and came across some PDFs, one of which almost made me fall out of my chair in crazed laughter and joy. Also there's an editorial on WTVL that sums up what I think about the system and is similar the basic outline of my community Pageone project.

I have no clue about that 2001-DC, but DAT Thunderbolt 1000T... I remember the sound of that siren as if it went off yesterday. 5/6 port, chopper level 5... blows the Whelen clean out of the water in loudness and sound. I think the base of the pole is still in the ground; I'll have to look one day. I’ve recorded that Whelen four times working and failing:

This makes me wonder if there are more of these sirens standing in the city like the SD-10 or if the rest were taken down and scraped. I can’t for the life of me find anything online like the locations of the old sirens and what all was in the system in general.

You've gotta love that feeling when you know you find "the lost system" or think there were at least some CD sirens at one point, and you can narrow it down.

To my knowledge, Columbus had Tbolts and SD-10s. Actually, in one of whelen's brochures, there's a photo of an omnidirectional one next to a 'bolt that was taken in Columbus. I think all of the sirens were removed except for the CSU one.
