Why are 10/12 port Allertors so rare?

Sat Feb 01, 2014 3:37 am

I only know of like 5 or 10 of them, but there has to be more. Do you know of any in cities other than these ones?:

Mason City, IA (disconnected in 2006)

Emmetsburg, IA

White Bear Lake, MN

I think Jonesboro, Arkansas may have had one, or at least the wide intake tells me.

Not an Allertor but a Mobil-Directo... the Yorkville Hose Company of Pottsville, Pa has a confirmed 10/12 port Mobil-Directo

I think Toronto has some Mobil Directos still standing, all of which I think are 10/12.

were there any Allertors with that ratio? I was under the impression that the Mobil Directo (gotta love those 1950s product names) were 10/12 and changed to 9/12 once it was turned into the Allertor.

Of course there were! You wouldn't call this a Mobil Directo, would you?

I think the Police Department Mobil Directo has a broken chain drive or something because it was facing a different direction on google earth than when I saw a picture on google images. Maybe the wind pushes it?

All of Canada's Mobil Directos were 10/12 and in Toronto there are 3 left that I know of. St Catherine's ON has two, one still standing and one at their museum.
