Siren_Dude wrote:Thanks for posting this, really interesting. Most were scrapped in the 90's- early 2000's but there are still quite a few around, just hidden. Just two years ago I talked to an a small town/city in BC and they still had a system of CLMs (4-6 units) installed and had just contacted the DND to remove them, which they did. I discovered a Model 2 air raid siren in Mississauga ON last year on a major road basically in the middle of the city. There's not many left but they are scattered around.

Just to add to the cool photos, 20/24 port CLM on the old Clarkson ON fire hall:
Cool, is this Clarkson now part of Mississauga?
Yes it is, its amazing how the times change. The fire hall and whole area at that time is almost completely build over.
Wonder what other hidden treasures are out there. Corunna, ON where my father grew up in during the 60s had the original fire station about 1/2km west of where it is now. The station was relocated in the 90s and has a Model 2 atop, but the old station also had a siren that could be heard clear across town. I wonder if it was a Carter siren, or something else. Do you now how common the Carter sirens were back then?

Maybe you can find on old photo of the hall to see what they had. Carter sirens were fairly common but seemed to be more popular in certain areas of Ontario. From Windsor to London they seemed to be wildly used. Other areas still had them but the Federals were far more popular.

Thanks for your post but I hate to bring bad news. All CGY sirens were removed and sold to a surplus dealer in Saskatchewan. The dealer has since scrapped all of them 10 yrs ago. All he has left is two poles.

For whose post are you grateful? From what place were the sirens removed? Please be more specific.
