Kodiak, Alaska:

There are sirens placed throughout Kodiak to warn you of the danger of a Tsunami. If you hear the siren go off anytime except 2:00 PM on Wednesday you should head to higher ground. (over 100 ft at least) Downtown Kodiak was wiped out in the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake. ------------------------------------

Yeah, most if it is Fiberglass. They're still pretty big though!

The stator/rotor assembly is the same diameter as the collar on the back of the shroud. I wonder if the rotator was disabled, because every time I've been in Crescent City, it is always facing that direction, which is toward the harbor and the lower part of town. The building next door to this one has the hornless head of the old Thunderbolt 1000 on it and it also always faces this direction. Aside from the E-57 down at the docks (which replaced a 2T22), I don't think they have any other sirens, even through the town continues for two miles to the north. There were some air horns at one fire department and an ancient flat topped (no shroud) Model 3 at the main FD a few blocks from this Allertor, but both are now gone.

Cutler City, by the way, is a neighborhood of Lincoln City at about 5 feet above sea level, and this 2001 is about a mile from an STL-10. In Douglas County, Oregon, which is about 80 miles south of Lincoln City, Modulators were recently installed in all coastal communities. Gardner still retains a little 9-port Sterling siren for fire calls, and Reedsport has two Model 5's which are barely audible in much of the town. Now, the lower part of Reedsport is covered by the Modulator. Check out the sign on the pole in Gardner. Both Modulators have blue strobes on top. Reedsport is the bottom photo.

What is that read thing on the top of that building Dan?

It is a small, nine port siren that I believe was made by Sterling. There are several of these sirens throughout Oregon, including Rickreall, Brownsville, Camas Valley, and Gervais. The famous three horned siren of Tangent is a variant of this type.
