Thunderbolts of Dallas Tx

Tue Mar 04, 2014 6:13 am

OK i seem to be getting a bit of conflicting info on this one, on one hand i have read that all of the city's t-bolts are no more and yet on the other hand with Google Maps i have so far found three.

One behind the Dallas Firefighter's Museum.

One in front of the Texas Fire Museum.

And one behind STATION NO. 18

Are there any Texans on here that can confirm if any of these Bolts still stand?
Live's near a t-bolt when younger and was afraid of them, years later actively searches for them......Is there something wrong with me?

A lot of them are still up, but my understanding is that none still are in use. I'll take a drive around in the next week or 2, and try to verify some. The one at Hillcrest High School is (was as of New Years) still up.

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)

There are still a whole bunch of them around. The only time a siren is removed, so I was told by the EM director, is if it interferes with construction. As Charles already said, none of them are still in operation.

From the sound of thing Dallas is a goldmine of CD siren history.

Are there any maps of the Thunderbolt system? My girlfriend said she saw one right off the highway over a bridge but I can't find it.
Kicking it in the siren party since '08

i see quite a few of them around when i travel through dallas.
Its sad to see some of them in pretty bad shape.
I'd like to get some pictures of the severely weathered looking ones.

From what i could tell form Google maps, the one out front of the Texas fire museum looks to be in good shape.

That's probably the one at Fire Station #6 by Park Row Ave. and S Harwood St. It is literally right next to I-45.

Here's a map of the old system that I plotted out a few years ago: http://goo.gl/maps/5vgT1

Disclaimer: The map may or may not be up-to-date with certain variables, such as sirens that have been removed.
