Are Model 2s very loud for their size?

Wed Apr 02, 2014 9:10 pm

Aren't Model 2s kind of infamous for how loud they are, since they're so small? How far can a Model 2 be heard? Are they louder than a Model 5/7 or an STH-10? Model 2s are small but they are loud. The one in Upperville, VA wakes people up.

No... The model 5 kind of gets to the point where I ALMOST have to cover my ears but I don't quite have to. The model 2 I could listen to all day even under the pole...
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

When it's next to you a Model 2 is deafening.

Here is a distance recording of my 2T. Gives you an idea of the volume, and the 2T is not a very loud siren. Sounds cool though.

I personally think you have to be in close range for it to seem loud. My school is about 1/5 of a mile from the Model 2 on the firehouse in Gimli, Manitoba. When it goes off and I'm at school, it's nearly impossible to have a normal conversation with someone outside. However, when I was at the local gas station (3/4 mile away) and it went off, you could barely hear it.
