Model A restoration (again)

Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:35 am

Aloha everybody, around a year ago I obtained a federal enterprises model A. I restored it and it served as a privatly owned civil defense siren out here in Kāne'ohe, Hawaii. Unfortunately the salt air really got to the paint, alot more than I expected it to! I recently moved a neighboring town called Kailua so when I dismantled my siren, I decided to give it a new breath of life. I disassembled the entire siren, sandblasted, and powder coated it. I also just purchased new bolts and screws for it. I mounted the panel in my new house's garage and ran the wires up to the roof through conduit to where the siren will soon be mounted. The panel is also wired to an electrical box I installed near it. The siren will have battery/generator/PV/gas backup because we recently installed an array of 35 solar panels, batteries, and a generator as well as a dual 30 gallon propane resivuar on our home so if the grid goes down, the siren and our electricity will still function. As seen below, the shrouds were coated red, the base black, and the chopper silver. More pictures are soon to come!

Restoration complete! It is all wired up on the roof and I have it on a temporary mount until I can get a raises base/stand for it.
