Morgan County, AL and Cullman County, AL siren hunt 4-26-14

Sat Apr 26, 2014 8:19 pm

Went down to Cullman, AL today with my mom to pick up a china cabinet today. We went on a siren hunt afterwards. Here's the sirens I saw in the two counties.

The first siren I saw was the Whelen Vortex at Lacy's Springs School:

The next siren I saw was the Whelen 2809 at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center (nothing says 'rural Alabama' like this place  ):

While my mom and I were driving around Cullman, AL looking at traffic lights, I took this picture of a cantilever that once held a traffic light. On the top of it, there's a Model A:

Then, on our way to Holly Pond, AL, we found what I think is a Whelen 2909 at the Berlin, AL Volunteer Fire Department:

Then, we went to Holly Pond, AL and photographed the Whelen 2809 at the town hall there:

Then on our way to Eva, my mom and I got on the wrong county road. So instead of going towards Fairview, AL. We ended up going to Baileyton, AL. There, we found this Whelen 2809 at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Cemetery Road:

Then we went back east over to Fairview where there is this Whelen 2809:

After that, we got to Eva, AL where we were greeted by this Whelen Vortex:

We then made our way to the Eva Fire Department to see the STH-10 that's there:

Whelen seems to have a huge presence in Alabama, particularly your neck of the woods. Nice pics though.

Nice photos! The possible 2909 is just another 2809 - the screens give it away.

The screens seem to be closer to the inside of the siren than on the rest of the 2809s, which is what made me think that it may be a 2909. Maybe it's a later model 2800?

The controller. The older style type III box with two battery doors housed the ESC-864 controller for the 28XXs and 4008s. You probably won't see that controller on a 2909, since those use the newer style box for the 2020/30 controller, unless someone decides replace the head for what ever reason.
