Here's an interesting question that came to me while watching test videos: what was the earliest model of siren to be sold that used a rotating beam of sound instead of omnidirectional propagation? Would it be the Mobil-Directo?
Thanks!
The ASC website says they started siren production in 1942, which would be the Mobil Directo.sirendude2012 wrote:
The Gas MD debuted in 1948 (or something around there), I believe. The next rotating siren, the Thunderbolt, didn't come until 1952.
Could be, they made more than just the MD (although I think those were all vehicle sirens...)Siren_Dude wrote:The ASC website says they started siren production in 1942, which would be the Mobil Directo.sirendude2012 wrote:

B&M made the vehicle sirens, B&N was the metal fabrication company.Ziginox wrote:Could be, they made more than just the MD (although I think those were all vehicle sirens...)Siren_Dude wrote:The ASC website says they started siren production in 1942, which would be the Mobil Directo.sirendude2012 wrote:

Or am I confusing B&M and B&N again?
Yeah but didn't someone have to turn them manually? By the way I'm new here.Antiwhoknows wrote:The Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren was in 1942. They rotated.
