Yeah, I actually had business up in KC (it's a hour and a half drive from my hometown), so I went up there and asked the on-site managers about it. Really friendly, personable ladies. Then got a call from them and went back a couple days later and went up there. Yeah, again due to the height an external crane is out of the question. I felt a forklift or any equipment on the roof (they had a large freight elevator, say around 20'X30' or so) would be a concern about falling through to the floor below being as the siren itself weighs 2.7 tons. I also assumed the liability issues and concerns about damage to the building were the reason the owners weren't taking offers on it. To be honest I'm surprised it's still standing. The tower it's on was swaying and moving with me and another person up on it.TurbopropPilot wrote:Welcome to the forums, uhh Large Richard. The Chrysler is still there. I saw it last month when I was going through KC. I can't believe you got permission to go up there. Very cool. There is no way you can get a crane up there anyways. It would be way too unstable. The only alternative is to contract a heavy lifting company with helicopters to bring it down. Prepare to dish out $20,000+ just to get a chopper out there. The owners will not take any offers because they do not want any liability of a company on their property removing the siren.
