… But I highly doubt it.
See my thunderbolt in my profile pic? Public works took them down. They auctioned them off. I didn't have enough room for the blower though and I had to get the vehicle new tires and what not so that it could be able to carry that too. When I got it into that condition they scrapped the blower because it took to long and the blower was taking up too much room. Too bad because it was an early A2 (The 5M) blower. Now if that tiny blower is taking up too much room after maybe a month or 2? I doubt that a siren the size of a friggin minitruck would sit in public works for what 4 years now? Probably took the engine out and scrapped the rest of it. If not someone has it or it's sitting in a corner and Spokane public works has too much room to work with.nathancovey wrote:Why would they scrap the sirens?

I can agree to that.Unit of Civil Defense wrote:......I hate to break the news to you Nathan , but.......
Counties nation wide are either broke financially, or very close to it....they are doing everything that they know to do to raise more money for their coffers....increasing tax bases (raising taxes, which they don't want to do in an election cycle) and selling off surplus equipment....everything from office furniture to bulldozers....somewhere in between is the outdoor warning devices...sirens... Now the office furniture (if its in good, decent condition) and the bulldozer (if its been well maintained w/ records) are both items that can be bid upon thru an auction (either internet or in person) and sold since there is a viable market for those items.
Something that has sat outside, been exposed to the elements and ,more than likely, has obsolete parts is not so marketable...like your beloved siren....they see an old siren as something that isn't worth bothering with as far as selling outright or auctioning off....very few counties ,anymore, sell to individuals( as I have found out myself)...they would rather do business with other municipalities. Before you say that they get refurbished all the time and get put back in service, let me point out this fact...refurbishing comes at a price that most counties are not willing or simply cant pay(parts and labor...even if its done in house by county personnel)...the government does not give grants to refurbish an old siren( as I have been lead to believe), but will negotiate on a new system.
The price of scrap metal today is relatively high (around here at least) ....so if a county is looking for some quick revenue,( fiscal years for some counties begin and end in June) scrapping sirens and any thing else deemed scrap is what they are doing.
Now, would a Moderator or someone from the Administrative staff please consider locking this thread...it has drug on long enough as far as I am concerned.
