Lets compare that to the 2001 at my elementary school oh my god I still remember the little kids screaming and running around and i'm just sitting there like "I like sirens".
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A little off topic, but there was a 3T22 outside of the elementary school that I went to and that sucker sure was loud!

My horrible video of the first 20V2T siren we growl tested: http://youtu.be/T9FWs4ebQEo
Sorry for the poor quality.

Freebrick, here is the FS 2001 siren at Johnson that you reported as not rotating. I went to check it and this was the test: http://youtu.be/fsSB83JT1qY

What was the reason for going with single phase and not DC with batteries?

emofficer said that they didn't want to go with batteries because they'd have to have a person going around and checking the batteries on the sirens.

Why couldn't they go with three phase?

I guess the availability of single phase was the deciding factor. We have been running single phase for years. Also, freebrick is right, the decision to not go with battery backup on our sites was made in the 1990s - before I began working here. It was due to the costs of maintenance. We have nearly 130 sirens now. At 4 batteries each, that would be 520 batteries to maintain - scattered across 813 square miles.

Yeah the power company will treat three phase like it's gold, at least here they do. Doesn't matter if you put the siren right next to a three phase transformer bank either, you mention three phase and they run the price way up. I've never understood their logic, they are perfectly fine with you sticking a 15 horsepower single phase monster on the line but throw a fit if it's the same size motor but only three phase.
