Like I said man you don't need the control boxes if you want to hear it.

While this may be true, you would never want to permanently install it without the controls. The controls have all sorts of trips in them if something were to go wrong, and if it were to continue running, it would probably do some damage. And this might depend on location, but there is a certain code that is required for electrical wiring.

No no for sure. If it's a permanent installation then yes you would want an RCM panel and for the activations either a phone line or radio activator and a timer. But if you just want to hear it for like 30 seconds in short increments (Like run it up every once in a while... Like a month...) Then it should be okay. But if you want it to rotate and the blower is a 3ph then you will need the extra power.

Let's just settle this about the controls. If the OP has a chance to get the controls then by all means get them.

Well I heard back from the city today.

They are not taking them down anytime soon I guess according to the person I spoke with today. I confirmed that they actually have four right now (that he knows of).

He continued to state that due to "red tape" from the city he would not be able to give me one, or allow me to purchase one without going through the compteitive bid process which he does not want to if they do take them down.

He did say though that if he does make movement to take them down, they will have to have an outside contractor come in and do it as they don't have the cranes, etc. needed to do it. He said that he'll forward my info to the contractor when, and if, they decide to do it.

Disappointed to say the least, since the TBolts are not common around here. Would have been nice to have one from home.

I really hope he follows through when they do take them down, otherwise I know they're gonna end up in the scrap pile. He confirmed the one with the missing chopper and horn was taken down by the power company, and they threw it out.

Oh well.....

PS, I will confirm that this is Concord, NH I was looking at.

Longview WA has the same problem. Nobody has the cranes to do get them down and they have been sitting up there, decomissioned, for years. They don't have the bidding thing but they charge $200 a siren and/or you have to pay to get everything together. Otherwise they stay up and rot. But the options are still open. If you don't get them there check Ebay, WSS does charge a lot but they have them, check other cities that are bringing them down you know... Don't give up man.

Surprisingly, I got a quote of $250 for the head unit from Jeff, which doesn't seem all that horrible to me. It'll cost over $1K to drive out there, so I did a quick "uShip" auction based on the weight and size, and was quoted $230 from MI to NH, which again isn't that bad. UPS freight wanted over $500 (no bueno!)

I'm going to see if he has a dual tone TBolts, and if not, a single tone will suffice. As long as they are willing to palletize it for me, it'll be a go. Called and left him a message the other day, so we'll see what happens next week.

Oh trust me they have dual tones. The amount of Thunderbolts in their lot is crazy. In fact you would probably have a tougher time finding a single tone vs a dual tone because single tones aren't very common.
