Sterling 2v8 Restoration

Sat Jul 12, 2014 12:05 am

Cory (Turboproppilot) and I now have a project on our hands! A Sterling 2v8 arrived from Canada at my house today. I'm going to be in charge of restoring it, and Cory will be picking in up in a few weeks when it is done. So far I have it all torn apart and will drop the motor off at the motor shop on Monday for testing, new bearings and new brushes as the old ones are damaged and broken. The housing will be straightened out and painted CD yellow. Stay tuned!

Wow, looks just like a model 2, an old one at that.

Yea, the chopper looks to be the exact same size. We were told it was from the 30's or 40's.

Glad she arrived safely! I can hardly wait to see her all shiny and new again! I would say age from 20's -40's and I have never seen another that old before.

Yes it did! The motor is going to the shop tomorrow, so we shall see what they say about it. Besides the brushes needing replacement/repair it looks to be in pretty good shape to me. It could have an open in the field though based on what you said.

I just had the field on my model 2 rewound for 120 bucks with shipping and everything. Looked like a rusted hunk of metal when I sent it out, came back looking like a brand new piece. Made my siren run again.

A very nice old siren the Sterling 2V8. It will look great after the restoration. I will watch this space!

That armature looks pretty toasty too. Might want to get that checked out?
