Close Look at a 2001-SRN-AC/DC in Ft. Benning

Sun Oct 05, 2014 12:16 am

I decided to have a gander at probably the cleanest installation of the remaining 2001s on base to confirm if they were still online and in use as a backup siren system. The rest are overtaken by vegetation.
Notice the four bars sticking up out of the siren? What are they, lightning rods?

The way they set the controller and other boxes up is a interesting...

Disconnect is off. No more 2001  They all are probably turned off or disconnected. Anyone know what that box is for below the disconnect?

What is this next one?

I was thinking it was the radio since the conduit that runs out the top goes to the antenna.

They have the FC set up on a different leg of the tower. Looks like they ran the power to and from the controller and supposed radio underground. They routed the power to the siren head underground and up the other leg. What the hell? DAT PVC conduit tho...

Each leg has a piece of conduit that runs into the ground. I'm guessing it is for the 4 supposed lightning rods. Needless to say though, the sirens from out the old system are rotting away on their posts. It looks like the only Federal Signal sirens that have not been disconnected are the 2 Modulator 2008s in Kelly Hill; at first I was thinking they were used to play bulge calls, but there is no info on the site mentioning it. God it hurts to see these sirens just sitting there  I don't think the current people in charge know they are even there. In other news the base is getting another 2909...

The ADT arrays still are connected I think.

That's a pretty cool install. What kind of system is there now?

That box below the disconnect looks to be a lightning arrester.

19 or so Whelen WPS 2900 series with the bulk of them being 2909s.

What kind of camera are you using? I'm taken aback by the crispness and sharpness of those (excellent) photos.
