Mequon, WI Mobil Directo removed

Wed Feb 18, 2015 12:00 am

I was randomly browsing around a siren map, and I came across where a Mobil Directo near Milwaukee was located on W Mequon Rd.

Street view was recently updated, here is the siren back in 2011:

Street view updated in 2013, now the siren is gone. All that remains is a cement slab and rusty bolts where the siren pole was once mounted.

I looked around some more and I found that as of August 2013, an MD on West Sunnydale Lane near Norway Drive is the only one left. And it seems to have a newer radio antenna.

Isn't that the one that now sits restored in ASC's lobby?

It has been gone for some time now it was removed along with the cyclones and allertor when they upgraded to the T-135's. The siren at North Shore country club is still up because no one knows it is there because the cyclones replaced it and the other Mobile Directo so they did not know it was there. Unlike the other Mobile Directo this one takes some looking to find unlike the one on mequon rd that is on a main drag. This siren is not hooked up to power and did not function when I went to try and record it. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.214168, ... ZuT64g!2e0

There's a low mounted, non-rotating 10/12 port MD still in use. It's located in Seward, Alaska

I have seen the Seward siren many times but never heard it. Weren't those older ones all 8 port sirens?

Only the gas powered ones were 8 port. I would imagine that because the gas engines were 25 hp and the electric sirens were only 10 hp. The 8 port rotor was probably too much of a load on the 10 hp version.
