High Water Siren System in Columbus, GA (Lots of Pictures)

Sun Feb 22, 2015 5:35 pm

I was strolling around on Facebook and found out that they put this system of DSAs up in 2013 for the river. They are to warn rafters when Georgia Power releases water from the North Highlands Dam I think. They are not tied into the county's system of Whelens, so these won't activate for the tests or any warnings as far as I know. I've added these three locations to my map of Columbus sirens. There are probably a few more out there. They look sharp from a distance, but up close... well you'll see.

A lot of antenna cable, but it's better than how McCord has the ones on our Whelens flopping in the wind.

They could have done better than this...

I'm sure the bees will love their new, free home...

Hmm, I wonder where this goes.

This one has the worst wiring. They could have use a little bit of conduit...

Wonder why they have a different number of horns on those sirens?

Less wattage in different different directions. More warning downriver, less wattage up river.

That conduit coming out of the base of the pole is probably a ground.
