That's a 2400 Watt ACA Alertronic. It had an analog controller tied to it when it was in service. It had a wind up, no wind down, and peaked around the same pitch as older single toned Whelens of that era.Badger 12 wrote:Sort of on the topic, does anyone know what ACA/ASC siren this is?

Bill said this one was supposedly on top of a hospital in town. Joe has an audio recording of it.There's an Alertronic 8000 at the old city hall. If there's a 5000 in there, I'd love to know.
Oh yeah, I remember these things. Our old system from '82 was falling apart before my eyes.Branden0925 wrote:Not my video, but here's a Whelen 2000R/400R in St.Louis County, Mo if anyone was wondering if there was a video of one... The 82 Whelens, for 30 year old electronic sirens, were in great shape and had a comparatively minimal number of failures. It was a highly reliable system and it was failing rotators that did them in.birds1337 wrote:Oh yeah, I remember these things. (Even one of the 3016's caught fire)
What was I thinking? It must have been something else.

You want to elaborate on the 3016 fire? That doesn't sound reasonable or plausible given how Whelrns work and what I know of the old system.
P.S. My apologizes to Badger12 for totally derailing your topic.
I had some time at work to look around hospitals in the St. Francis area, I didn't find a single siren on any of them... I was really hoping to be able to pick it up. Do you have any other information Andy that could help find it better??Andys Live WX wrote:Bill said this one was supposedly on top of a hospital in town.
