We used Motorola Quik Call 1 tones to set off minitor pagers in schools and other critical facilities. The pagers would beep then a voice message could be broadcast. The tones also set off our sirens. They sounded very much like on the old tv show "Emergency!" from the 1970s. They don't make QC1 stuff anymore.
The Quik Call encoder is on the right side of our display and looks like a board with several round buttons and old analog meter on it. Directly underneath it is one of the pagers. This is our small museum in our lobby. This was taken in the fall, note the CD sticker on the pumpkin.
