Beat up Whelen 2810

Tue May 12, 2015 3:31 pm

I think that this is a 2810, but I'm not sure. Could someone correct me if I'm wrong? Anyways, I saw this poor whelen a few days ago, and noticed it's not in good condition at all. Can someone tell me what the stuff is that's falling off of it? I'm assuming it's probably weather seals and other stuff. Any answers would be accepted.

^Does someone know what that white cord may be? I think it is some sort of wire, but I may be wrong.

^What type of cabinet is this? I'm guessing a type III, but it looks different with the two small cabinets.

That looks like a pitiful attempt at lightning protection.

It's not beat up, it just has "accessories".

So are both of these type III cabinets? Or is one of these type II and one type III?

Both are Whelen Type IIIs. The first one is just a newer design.

Type I is a single cabinet design used for the non voice capable sirens.
Type II is the design used for 1-5 amplifier, 2 battery sirens (voice capable)
Type III is the 6-10 amplifier, 4 battery cabinet (voice capable sirens).

Here are some more photos that I found. This siren is also located b a school, so I'm wondering if angry neighbors or students threw stuff at it? It's also by some softball/baseball fields, so I'm wondering if a stray ball hit it? Anyways, here are the pics, it does look like a pitiful lightning protection attempt, but the screen coming off makes me wonder about angry neighbors.

^Here is the pic of the screen coming off. How bad is that for the siren?

^Should these lights be off like that?

Sorry to bump this, but it came to my attention the other day that this siren is in an area that recently had a tornado sweep through it. I guess the poor thing couldn't stand the high winds, and fell apart.
