Federal Model B siren found

I was on the road with my dad, and he asked me if I'd heard of a tiny town called Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Because a little while ago, he went to pick up parts for a car project (or something like that), and while passing through the town, he spotted "a weird looking siren on top of the police station"

Well, I immediately did some research, and then I looked for photos, thinking it would be a federal model 5 or maybe a Darley, but it was norther of those sirens.

It's a silver Federal Model B horizontal siren. It is tested on the first Saturday of each month at noon IIRC. It is located at 37 Webb Rd. in Bell Buckle, TN

Interesting. I've never seen a Model B with ports like that before. Usually they're split down the middle (can't think of a better way to describe it) so they have a dual-tone appearance, like this one:



Comparing the two photos, it actually looks like the one you posted has less ports. I didn't know they made them with anything other than 12(?). Cool. It's been a while since I learned something new.

That appears to be a lower toned version. According to TommyBNSF, Seneca, IL used to have one until it was recently removed to possibly be restored.

That is weird, being lower-toned. I've never seen a 12-port model before. By the way, it's Type B, not model. Small difference, but I'm picky about that.

Nice find! It looks in good condition to. I came across some old ads for these sirens. One from August 1924

Finally went up there today, and got a few photos of it.

I also spoke with a lady at the town hall, and it turns out that they test their sirens every Wednesday at noon (likely weather permitting), and that this siren is actually out of service.
The Type B was taken out of service about a year and a half ago when Webb School installed a Sentry 3v8 on the roof of their administration building.
