Yes, the rotor is spinning backwards. Interesting how Federal went with a directional rotor design on this one. On the topic of rare design, I wonder how many Model 1's are still in existence besides this one.

I have a feeling it's that way from the factory unless it's been rewound. In order to reverse a series wound motor you have to swap the brush holder leads or the field connections. Not that easy.
