Updated info for Connecticut Sirens on a Schedule?

Tue Sep 29, 2015 6:45 pm

Hello All,

I'm a sound recordist (I go around and make very high quality recordings of things that amuse me), and I've recently become fascinated with sirens. I live in Los Angeles, but I'm currently in Connecticut for 12 days. I've read as much as I could find on CT sirens on this forum, but most of it is from 7-9 years ago, so i'm looking for a bit more up-to-date info.

Can anyone tell me of any Sirens in and around CT (MA, eastern NY, lower NH and lower VT too) that have a set schedule? Sirens that go off every day at noon, or every Tuesday at 9am, etc... I'm staking out the Litchfield Green one today, which isn't on a schedule, as far as I know, but I've heard it go off several times before, so here's to hoping...

I'd like to record as many sirens as possible on my trip, and I'd gladly share my recordings with everyone here.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Here's what I'm up to right now:

Managed to get a pretty good recording of the Litchfield one. Also checked out the Prospect STH 10, but it's been dismantled (pictured below).

But first, as promised, here's my recording from Litchfield:

Welcome, sadly I do not know the schedule :C But here is a map I found, I bet it doesn't have nearly all the sirens, but its what I could find https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi ... c&hl=en_US :innocent:
I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.

Here's my CT map which also includes diaphragm horns and Diaphones, which also includes test times. It's not complete but I'm adding more as I find out.

Did the Litchfield STH sound at noon? I'll update it if it did.

Also Millstone tests their 81 2910s on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 11 am, in voice, alert, and attack (fast wail). I'm not 100% on their exact locations...still working on that

In MA there's the famous Super Sirex at the Wherehouse? in Holyoke which is set off in alert for a full 3 minutes at noon every Friday.

Hope this helps

Glastonbury, CT has two Whelen WPS 2740's and two 2902's. They test in alert and attack on the first Saturday of the month at 11am, and also go off every day at noon. I'm hopefully getting down to Company 2's 2902 this weekend.

Well for eastern NY, there is a Sterling in Brewster and a dual directional Whelen in Carmel. That's all I got (right outside of Danbury CT).
Welcome aboard!
