McCord Communications to close

Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:27 pm

Saw this on Facebook this morning. Pretty shocking to say the least. For those of you who don't know, they're a Whelen dealer with a pretty large presence in the south.

Time to hit that panic button for the deep south. :!: They installed hundreds of systems down here from every thing from small towns to nuclear power stations and military bases. They was supposed to upgrade our radio system in January, but I guess that plan is up in the water.

As someone who has been working in the siren business in the southeast for many years, I can honestly say this is equal to the fall of the Roman empire. McCord had a huge presence down here.

I wonder how hard it will hit Whelen themselves in the business department. I figure this means Federal or ASC might get more business.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

They have other smaller outfits and radio shops that will fill that gap.

I can see this causing an increase in sales for ASC and Sentry in the region. Not sure by how much, if at all, though.

So does this mean the famous crappy Columbus Whelens will finally be fixed!? Or was that the city's fault? Sad to hear this none the less.
