I agree, it is rather odd to replace relatively new sirens, but I guess standards have changed regarding siren lifespan.

The large FS symbol SRNB got relocated to another part of town; but more older 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation SRNs are being replaced with 130s

The SRN (early 3rd generation [1st version with the larger internal cone] it says FEDERAL 2001:DC on the rotator box) at Uniroyal Dr & I35 also got replaced by a shiny new 2001-130

Off subject, what is with that major fail, the wooden utility pole right in front of the pedestrian crosswalk signal on the metal pole.
That's what happens when IDOT and COMED(Utility Service) dont think. Those traffic poles were installed later on then the wooden pole and those numbered pedestrian signals were install 3 years ago.

That's more a comed fail than an idot fail. That traffic signal looks like it's from the 80s or 90s. You can tell by the way it's mounted to the concrete pier. Comed will just put a pole where they think it should go. They don't care.

Well, there are several generations of 2001s, so an older 2001 such as a 2001-DC being replaced by a 2001-130 isn't THAT strange

Yeah it's pretty strange speaking that the older models sport the same technology as the latest model. The only downside with the older models is that they always run off of their batteries. They run and after they cut off, the battery chargers kick in and recharge the batteries.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, they are probably using 2001s because the 2001 is cheaper than a bread crumb

Doubt it. A 2001 with controls is around $30,000-$35,000. They aren't cheep that's for sure. A rectifier for an older model with a few mods to the controls is probably much cheaper than a full blown replacement.

Pardon the bump but I found the roundback 2001DC on top of the old Mercy Hospital in Laredo; its been removed for some time only to be replaced by a 130 on a cell pone tower. I am hoping to aquire that cute roundback
