The 20 in 2001 means 20 HP motor, and 01 means single tone.

Correct me on that, I'm not sure. This is just a theory.
Makes sense. So if Federal made a 2001 type thats dual toned, it would be called a 2002?

That's a very interesting and well thought out theory. I've never been inside a 2001 so I didn't know it had a 20 horsepower motor if it does.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

01 does not stand for single tone. T stands for dual tone and no T means single tone.
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

Ha, well the T is for sirens that were offered in both single and dual toned. No T in 1003 either.

SD-10 means Special Dual, and 10 for the 10 HP motor.
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

I have always looked at it like this; they totally named the 2001 series after "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Just a little thought for you. ;)
