Weird Looking Electronic Siren on East Washington in Madison WI

Fri Mar 04, 2016 12:07 am

So on the way home from Madison today I happened to notice this siren or whatever it is on top of Saint Johns Church on E Washington and it looks a lot like a T-121 at some angles but instead of horns, their large speakers. It's not even listed on the siren list for Dane County so I have no clue if this is actually a siren or not. Anybody know?

Those are electronic church bells.

Ah! That appears to be a church owned electronic bell system of sorts.

I was about to think that but none of the other churches in the area have this.

Those church speakers came in a variety of configurations. Usually the round-horned arrays have just four speakers while this one has some extra horns. There are several across Wisconsin, too many to list out. Virtually every moderate to large city has at least one church with such speakers.

When I went on my trip to New Mexico this past summer, we made a pit stop in La Junta, CO for the night, and across the street from one of their 15V2T's was this similar horn setup. I thought I had found a T-121 until I heard music coming from it...

I don't think that's a siren. I think that's just a large PA speaker system.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Funny thing you bring this up. Read through this thread, as we were thinking that was a T-121, until I saw it in person.
