Philomont Volunteer Fire Department's VERY sick Allertor

Mon Mar 07, 2016 3:45 pm

Okay, so I've seen a few videos of this siren. Philomont, Virginia has an ACA Allertor 125 that it uses for fire calls at its volunteer fire department station. However, this is quite possibly the sickest siren I've heard in a long time  . I understand that it's running off a rotary phase converter, but dang, this sounds REALLY sick. What else could be wrong with it? Bad capacitors? Phase converter not working properly? Motor breaking? I don't know. Can anyone help me out? Here's the link to the video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kRCdnqgGoTc

I am the one who filmed those videos.

That siren has been running like that for years. Not sure what is wrong with it, but I suspect it's something with the phase converter. It can't be capacitors, since this siren is not single phase. The motor is probably going bad as well. Not quite enough to send it to the graveyard, but close.

I used to post about it a lot and was obsessing, so I have cut down on my posts about it.

My mom lives 6 miles away. On a clear day/night, we can hear the Allertor.

If you think it sounds sick, check out this one. This one really is dying: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zWBVvaZ9S7I

Sooo... The video is nice but may I point you to the search button? Plenty of threads with the answer to your questions if you haven't tried that already.
