Ala Wai Thunderbolt siren photos (not mine)

Sat Mar 12, 2016 5:49 am

I was talking with Randall Noguchi today on IRC chat. He had some photo links from the Ala Wai Thunderbolt siren test back in 2010 after it malfunctioned during a Tsunami warning. Personally I have never seen what was in these wooden boxes. So I was very excited to see these photos.
This Thunderbolt 1000AT looks like it was installed somewhere around the mid 60's or late 60's. It has a A2 5M blower.

Man, that wooden cabinet kept the controls pristine!
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

Yeah I know. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the controls in that condition. Amazing...

If only the same could be said for the machine itself...

Thunderbolt has definitely seen better days. Maybe if the workers did a better job on painting the siren lol.

What caused the malfunction?

From what I heard it was because of some kind of electrical malfunction.
