Sirens I saw in AZ/NV

Sat Mar 26, 2016 3:07 am

Hello everyone,

I recently took a trip to Arizona and Nevada with my family and thought I would share my siren sightings with you all.

This was my first sighting of the whole trip... 2 days in

In the town of Jerome, AZ, I saw this siren. I cant tell if it is a Decot or an Erick Fire Siren. It is mounted atop the old fire station/town hall building.

After seeing the first siren, I thought it was the only siren I would see all day, but then I saw this Denver Siren mounted in an enclosure. I know the picture is terrible because I obviously couldn't get on the building it was mounted on and take apart the little enclosure it is in but I am 100% sure it is indeed a Denver Siren. Confirmed by residents. The pictures are terrible because they were taken from an iPhone and the only place I could see it was 2 blocks away but you can clearly see one of the rotors.

Also as a bonus, the FD of Jerome was taking donations outside the old firehouse (where the Decot/Erick is installed) with an old firetruck so here is a picture of the cool old mechanical siren on their old truck. And yes, I did give the department a donation.

While driving from Sedona, AZ to the Grand Canyon, we drove past a few fire departments in the Sedona area all with Vortex R-4's mounted on the roofs. This was my first time ever seeing a Vortex in person. :vortex: :vortex:

On the way, we also drove through a small town called Ash Fork and they had this Darley siren on the water tower:

On Route 66, we drove through a small town literally in the middle of the desert called Seligman and their VFD has an arrangement of Model A's.

I missed 2 model 5's in the next 2 days when we drove by... one was at a VFD and the other seemed to be for a juvenile correctional facility. But I figured you all have seen pictures of a model 5 before :D :D

Next, I saw this model 2 in the same town as one of the model 5's.

Last but certainly not least, is the Thunderbolt 1000(T) in the Clark County Heritage Museum in Las Vegas, NV

I saw that someone said this was an "abomination" but considering that it was restored by Rick from "ricks restorations and was featured on the episode titled "Duck and Cover" and is at the museum run by the man frequently featured on Pawn Stars, Mark Hall-Patton.

I tried to find the Tbolt at Mcarran Intl' Airport but I couldnt find it...

Thanks everyone for reading.

This is a Cosgrave siren, and from my understanding, they are super duper rare.

Nice to see that the Cosgrave is still up! We really need a video of that beast...two of the small sirens are Model A's, but the third one on the left is a Model PL/DL, which is essentially a Model D/L with a damper;very cool find indeed!

Honestly, even though I am never going to be at that Cosgrave.. I am extremely thankful that you found such a rare siren for everyone! I would amazingly appreciate it so much if someone recorded it.
I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.

Interesting to see close-up pics of that Thunderbolt head from the American Restoration TV show with the rusty bolts, rusty plate and crooked screen.
With that big-shot restoration that was done on that thing wonder why the bolts are rusty now..... ;)
Uh. Just looked again and that plate might not have rust on it. I think that's leaking gear reducer oil..... :(
The weather bell (that's what I call it) is still shiny so I guess it paid-off for Rick to drag his buddy onto the show to polish that stupid thing.

I just checked and all of the pictures are there but just out of order so you guys will just have to match them up with the right passages.

I would have loved to hear it too, but from the looks of it, it doesn't seem to be functioning because the control box doesn't have a door and the components seem to have a bit of corrosion on them. But after all, I could be wrong and I've seen worse condition sirens still in use from YouTube videos.

Yea it was cool to see, especially because it was on the show (I don't really watch Rick's Restorations but I love Pawn Stars which Rick is on from time to time), I kind of feel like the thunderbolt didn't have a genuine feel without the blower though...
