ACA Screamer 105

Thu Mar 31, 2016 2:07 am

This siren has been discussed a bunch of different times, it was featured on the old ACA cover that we all love but very few made it into the wild. I had posted these pics years ago and through some amazing fluke on Photobucket's part (which is why I am switching away from Photobucket moving forward) they got deleted, I couldn't for the life of me find the original photos so I assumed they were lost forever. I checked the folder they should have been in and they were gone, I am currently working a smugmug for my fire apparatus photographs (shameless plug.... http://www.rheems1.smugmug.com check it out! LOL) and came across the same folder in a different location and to my relief the pictures were there. So I share with you all again, the Screamer 105 pictures that were taken in Exeter Park, Pa up by Wilkes-Barre. Siren is a 3 signal model with a damper to create a pulsed signal, it is 1 of two that I know of in that area and both are now gone.

Very nice photos you got there. Shame that they are both gone now. I think we need Mr.SuperBanshee for some information about this siren. ;)

I was actually waiting to see if Mr. SuperBanshee was going to post a story about it as I sent him the pics and didn't want to step on his toes LOL

This Screamer 105 is a three signal model, using a damper valve to create a pulsed blast signal. ACA used the same setup on some of the earlier Banshee 110s. Very few Screamer 105s were built as ACA decided to keep the Screamers cheap 'n simple. As the Screamer 105 used an enclosed motor shroud, custom Doerr motor with big ventilated sections, and damper for 3 signal models, it was discontinued by 1973 in favor of the Screamers we usually find. The Screamer 105 was always a single tone siren, looks like 9 blades in the pictures.

On the oft-posted 1968 brochure cover is the two signal Screamer 105 - compare and contrast with the three signal model.

Alas, Screamer 105, we hardly knew thee.
Thanks again for posting the photos, Dave. It's a shame the siren is gone but at least we have the photos of it again.

There we go! Thanks SuperBanshee yet again for the information. Do you know if there are any other Screamer 105's still left today? Or have they all been replaced?

I just noticed right now. There is a number on the serial plate says "72". Could that possibly mean that this siren was made in 1972?

Yes - the serial number would suggest it was made in 1972. Early ACA serial numbers usually had the year incorporated as a two digit initial. I don't believe this was consistent on later sirens, but it would seem to "hold true" for anything made up to 1980.
