Lexington, KY's siren page

I found this. Look at what tone they use for thunderstorm watch/warning and tornado watch.

Wow...that is weird. Why not High/Low? That's crazy.

Not to mention they have one helluva weird testing schedule too.

Oh wow, Lexington is finally getting rid of those tired old WS-2016s?
They had those all over the place when I lived there but oddly none in the section of town I lived in, even though they do get tornadoes there.

They do have one heck of a wierd testing schedule. I don't think having Westminster Chimes for Storm Watch/Warning is weird. After all, Storm Watches and Severe Storm Warnings arn't really life threatening...so I think Chimes would be good so people know, yeah somethings up but its nothing major.

I wish that every county had a section on their website like that.
Very well organized.

The only complaint is that the audio clips are Real Media files. I don't have Real Player installed on my laptop (I have yet to find a need for it), and can't find an up to date plugin to make Winamp handle them. Why can't they use wav or mp3 like everybody else?

That's sorta retarded using the Chimes for a signal. Why didn't they use something like Alternate Steady (Hi-Lo), Alternate Wail, Pulsed Wail or Pulsed Steady? :S

Wail (evacuation/shelter-in-place)
Uh, aren't those opposites?

I think that it means that you should evacuate to the safest place available if possible, but if not, stay in the house or building you're in. I'm not completely sure, though.

But a Westminster chime for a tornado watch/thunderstorm warning? It's almost like twisted humor.

I live in Lexington and if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued before 8 am or after 8 pm they don't sound the chime! But to me, i like the chime! I live near the Veterans Park siren and when the chimes go off, it echos really nicely. There scheduled is based on the season as well and most the time, they do silent tests.
