Whelen Hornet

We have a Hornet that is just about to get shot out of the sky. We have put about 2,000.00 in repairs each year for the past 4-5 yrs because of blown boards, batteries and chargers fried etc. it goes off when it feels like it so the public isn't really happy. The last time it went off on its own its was about 5 am and foggy and i thought we were about to have the Zombie apocalypse, it was making a sound i've never heard. Whelen said to pull the ribbon wire so i did, but the batteries and charger are shot again. So i will get to my point has anyone had issues like ours or did i get the lemon of all sirens.

Would that be the Hornet in Markle Indiana on park view drive by any chance? Sounds like you got a bad unit. There's been a couple of instances that I've known about that sirens have randomly sounded before but after maintenance repairs it, typically it doesn't happen again. Sounds like the money that your putting into this thing isn't doing one bit of good. If this is Markle Indiana do you happen to know anything else about the other three sirens in town. I know there's one mounted on top of a building that goes off at noon everyday but is it radio activated with Huntington sirens as well? Do you have any other problems with the other sirens in the city? Thanks!

The siren head doesn't sound like the issue to me, honestly. It sounds more like a controller issue. I say this because(please tell me if I'm wrong, please), the siren head just rotates and makes noise, doesn't actually handle activation, batteries, boards, ect.

Sounds like you got a bad siren, either defective from the factory or damaged at some point during transport or installation. I am going to presume your Hornet is beyond warranty coverage so you're going to have to fix or replace it at your own expense. Unfortunately electronic sirens were always viewed as "disposable" sirens which means if/when they break, there is very little that can be done to feasibly repair them. Even if you do repair it now, you'll be looking at similar problems a few years down the road.
