Mini North Eastern Wisconsin Siren Hunt

Mon May 23, 2016 1:29 am

I went to Chilton Yesterday to record their weird mounted Allertor at the Kaytee Bird seed Plant of Clay street , but it ended turning into a mini siren hunt.

Like I said this siren is located at the Kaytee Bird Seed plant of clay street in Chilton WI it is a 3 phase model. They test every Saturday at 12:00

Next I stopped at the Allertor at the Chilton Middle school it too is a 3 phase model.

Next on my way home I spotted this gem in back of the Dairy Queen in Kiel Wi this is one of the last if not the last Sterling 2V8 in North Eastern WI. Ada WI used to have one but they removed it a couple years ago. This siren is no longer in use it was replaced by a T-121 a bit to the west up the street.

That's a weird mount for the Allertor. Is that control box for the Allertor? It says Federal Signal on it so is it for the Allertor or for another?
Proudly own a Edwards Model E, a Federal Enterprises Model 2, a Darley Model 5, and a Thunderbolt 1003A converted to "B". Also, an ACA Hurricane.

The original controls probably broke after ACA stopped making that particular unit, so they called Federal Signal and installed a Federal control box. Control boxes and sirens are interchangeable between brands as long as you match an electronic head to an electronic panel, and an electromechanical head to an electromechanical panel.
Whatever you do, don't push that big red button🔴!!!

I remember seeing and recording these Allertors years ago. Looks like they've held up pretty well.
The Federal control box was present when I was there, so it wasn't a recent addition. Interestingly, both Allertors spin opposite directions: the one by the school is wired up correctly while the one at the bird factory runs backwards.

The 2V8 looks pretty good - hopefully it will find a nice home when it's removed.
