A yellow 508 would be awesome. I have a question though, why is the PN20 being replaced? They are probably louder than a 508, they have battery backup, and they have around the same pitch as a 508 which should carry a long distance.

Both the 508 and PN-20 are rated at 128 dB and get a little over a mile of range. While the PN-20 is battery powered its from a different manufacturer than the majority of that system, which is composed of mostly Federal Signal sirens aside from a couple T-128s. The siren also hasn't been produced since the mid to late 90's before being replaced with the T-128 in ASC's lineup. ASC probably doesn't support them anymore.

Do you know what will become of the PN-20?
Braniff Communications, the siren contractor will take it.

Absolutely right on all counts here. The siren has been problematic over the years (actually one of the more expensive repair bills that we have had as no new parts are available and last year when the drive coupling broke Braniff had to modify used parts to make it function again. The new 508 will be battery as well running strictly solar powered chargers. Tired of waiting on ComEd problems.

The tentative date for removal of the old siren is the 21st of this month. The old siren will be removed and Braniff will be using some of the SCADA hardware from the old siren to implement into the new siren as I had that SCADA equipment installed only a few years ago. After building the siren control boxes back at the Braniff shop they expect to reinstall the siren on the week of the 21st. I will give you guys the firm date on the install that week. Mike

I actually recieved a PM from Mike saying that the PN-20 will be removed today at around 8:30 and the 508 will be installed on Wednesday at 8:30. I probably won't be able to make the removal, but I'll try to witness the install.

Good. It would be a shame if it got scrapped.
