Is there a thread for abandoned siren pictures? I know there is one for highest mounted and lowest mounted.

Oh boyyyy by abandoned do you mean just straight up decomissioned/inactive? The CTI photo.. its me going on a limb thinking its inactive, because of the messy wiring and the fact the box is gutted in one of the older street views...
oKAY so the CTI omni photo won't post I'll put it in screen shot form at the end.. picture of the rectifier is still there. Will add more siren photos I've taken that are decomissioned if I can think of them.
In these photos, the Banshee is at Lake Arcadia in Edmond OK. The Thunderbolt is in Del City,
OK. The Sterling is in Crescent, OK. The naked 5T is in Purcell OK. The omnidirectional CTI is in Okarche,
OK. I have a photo of a 2T22 somewhere that I need to add from The Village,
OK that is also inactive.

Just about every non-modern siren in Utah, besides a Fedelcode 5 in Park City, a Thunderbolt 1000 in Provo, and a Screamer S-2 in Spanish Fork.

DeKalb County, Georgia had roughly 28 thunderbolts until the late 80s, when they were removed and sold to Cobb County. They took only the blowers, controls, and siren heads, leaving only poles with the yellow blower pipe on them. You can find examples of them across the county however this is an obvious exception. It is at Oak Grove Elementary School on a walking trail beside the school. Of course only the head remains, the blower and controls are gone, leaving only some conduit and a Bell System phone relay. The siren was originally installed in either 1963 or 1964 I believe as the pole was manufactured in 1963.

I'll add the Springfield, IL Thunderbolts (I'll post 1. I'm sure you all have seen the others).

Nice photo btw. It's a shame you couldn't rescue the head. :)

Odd sirens to be decommissioned but Lyndhurst, NJ's 5 Whelen 4004s and 1 2807. I'll try to post pictures if I'm going thru that area.

I really don't have any good photos of the last one but here goes anything. Next time I'm in the area, I'll grab some more.

I have 3 from with in the city limits of Topeka, Ks. I'll let the wizards of smart on here I.D these units, if they would, please .

[URL=https://public.fotki.com/outlaw-ford/my ... 7-004.html]Image
This unit served downtown and East Topeka from high atop the South Western Bell bldg. at 823 S.E Quincy. I was downtown a few times when it was sounded for the Monday noon test...the ambiance coming off all the other buildings downtown was awesome to say the least. Shorty after I took this picture, as luck would have it, I saw a b/w birds eye view picture dated from 1960 of downtown showing the siren atop the bldg.
The bldg. now sits empty and is for sale, I imagine the only reason it is still up there is that it would take a large crane to lift it as the bldg. is aprox. 10 stories tall.

This is what replaced the unit pictured above....located 1 block East at S.E 9th and Monroe

This is located on the East side of the old #8 Fire Station at S.W 21st. & Indian Trail...it's now a print shop....it served West Central and South West Topeka.

[URL=https://public.fotki.com/outlaw-ford/my ... 7-014.html]Image
This is the siren from my old neighborhood located at S.W 15th and Lincoln...it served the College Hill, Central Park area of town ..this picture is taken looking South West...my Mother still lives aproz. 150 Yards South West of this siren. The power line has been cut for quite some time.

This siren replaced the siren that died a hero the evening of June 8th, 1966....at that time my folks and myself lived at the same location where my Mother lives today.....home destroyed, car in the neighbors tree... EF-3, EF-4 when it roared thru the neighborhood , couple folks lost their lives in the neighborhood.
The old Central Park Elementary School use to sit where the Robinson Middle School tennis courts are now (pictured)....the picture of the old Central Park Elementary is of the West side which would be facing the apartment complex (pictured)...the apartment complex was built after the tornado since the area homes were pretty much destroyed anyway.
There was a siren atop Central Park Elementary school.....before I took the picture I stopped in and asked my mother about the siren that was atop the school....she states that "it looked like the one up at 15th and Lincoln" I'm guessing that it was like the one that's atop the old South Western Bell Bldg. downtown....if anyone has any thoughts on this, I would like to read them as its been a mystery to me all these years as I was too young to remember the old,old neighborhood.
Back in the days before weather radios and such we really depended on this siren. If a Tornado Warning occurred over night after the television stations had signed off the air, it was all we had.....other times the sirens would sound a minute or so before any mention of the Tornado Warning was made via broadcast media .
