I'm a bit baffled by that amp rating also. There is a siren like this on Ebay right now, and that one says 56 amps. I've read stories that in the old days, power companies wouldn't allow single-phase motors over X horsepower to be connected to their systems. Supposedly, some siren manufacturers simply labelled their units as one or two horsepower sizes down from what they actually were, to get around this. I can't guarantee that those stories are true, however.Wdr wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 1:43 pmDon't mean to high jack but I'm curious now, 5hp rated and 54 amps at 240? Every single phase 5hp Motor I've ever seen has been around 25 amps, 30 at most. I've also never really seen manufacturers under rate HP. 54 is more like 10 hp. Anyone know know what the deal is? Just curious, sorry for the intrusion.
