Indonesian/Australian mystery siren

Hello ARS, for the past few days me and a few other people (mostly HX56) on the discord have been gathering info on this strange siren type located mostly in Indonesia but also one in Australia, now here is all the stuff we have gathered so far
NOTE: Most of this is speculation and guesses so if anything I say is wrong please correct me


So first of, this is the siren we are talking about

This one being located on the Regiment Memorial building in Sydney, AU. I am unsure if it is still standing because it is quite hard to tell with google
(also according to the site this image was from, the sound of this could travel 8 miles)

This video is of the rotational model (shown above) located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia now I'm not sure if all of them spin as fast as this one but it is quite fast, also this is most likely 5 port or 10 port, and as of 2019 it is still in place!

This next video is of a omnidirectional model, this is also located in Yogyakarta at Plengkung Gading there are many pictures of this place that include this siren, here is a photo of the whole siren (Head, tower, and boxes) it appears to have a RCM type box on it with a almost nonexistent possible CD logo

These 2 videos give some extra information on these units (The first one showing pics of the omni model and 2 other rotational models, one is from a movie in 1951 the other is a photo somewhere)

Also these are used as fasting signals and a siren to set off to show Indonesia's independence

So that is all the information I have found so far, I will update if I find anything else out

Even though I really only pay attention to American sirens, this actually sounds quite interesting! Mind if I join in and try to help find some info on these?

Yeah, the main reason for interest is because that photo keeps appearing a lot in my Australian siren research. As well, occasionally on ARS and discussion on the Discord server. So, EOWS 115 and I decided it's time we figure out everything, I'm hoping to get a manufacturer, model, and port.

These definitely peak my interest, and I'm sure if we work as a team we can uncover everything. These sirens seem to have been popular during the late 1930's and early 1940's, so that's something that could possibly help us a lot.


The video that shows the Model 2's is definitely crucial in a way. Australia is known to have over 400 of these weird looking sirens, and knowing that Indonesia also has the same Model 2 things, shows that Australia definitely had a part in the siren industry of Indonesia. Australia has been found to have the first one of the rotational sirens, which was pictured above. The fact that Indonesia then got them in the following years, shows maybe they were Australian made. Australian made then points to Grifco, or Sirenco, but neither of these companies were around during that time.

Into the 40's and early 50's is when we start seeing those Model 2 things as well, the earliest photo I have acquired is of a new fire station siren (Model 2) mounted on a fire house in Australia, in 1957, but I've read reports of these being sighted way before.


The model 2's are not important for this topic, but I think it's crucial for the time frame.

yes, i have seen those also I am guessing that the rotational ones don't normally spin that fast but who knew

No they definitely don't, I guess maybe it got repaired or something in it's life, it's almost like 80-90 years old

The omni one sounds like a 12 port siren on 50HZ.

I've also seen examples of this in India, most notably in the now decommissioned Mumbai system
