Depending on the municipality, fire department and contractor, they can be kept for display, parts for other sirens, auctioned off or scrapped entirely.
If it has sound skipping, it's always an NEC...

Blue Valley Public Safety (here in the Mid West) might take them, Purple Wave auctions, private auctions, sold for scrap, given away, sold to private parties, rehabbed for use by other cities........

Most of the time, they do usually get scrapped. If the town thinks that it's historical enough, they might put it on display. Sometimes, if lucky, siren enthusiasts are able to buy the siren and keep it!

Getting scrapped is basically when they take the siren apart, and throw most or all of it away. Sometimes the parts are used for other sirens, or can be sold depending on how rare a part is.
