Sentry F2 vs Federal Model A?

Sat Feb 03, 2024 4:01 pm

If anybody out there has any experience with the Sentry F2 or the Federal Model A, please share, both good and bad?

I need to buy a siren, but am undecided between the 2. They both are:
Something that I can buy new. In other words, something that is still in production.
Made in USA.
Not too big.
Ideally "mechanical", as I hear mechanical is better equipped to outlast an electrical siren.

I'd recommend against the F-2, they're pretty crappy and shoddily made. A Federal Model A or L is your best bet, they're the loudest and highest quality for the price.

Is there another small mechanical siren, still in production, that you'd recommend, besides the Federal Model A?

The Model L is probably your best bet, it's a lot louder than the A with the same power requirements. I've got one myself. Unfortunately, your options for brand new small sirens are pretty limited other than the F-2, A, and L, since few companies still make small industrial sirens.

Based on the specifications listed online, the Sentry F-2 and Federal Signal Model A are identical in output volume. However, the Sentry F-2 draws 2.5A at 120V, and the Model A draws 1.9A at 120V. Brand new F-2s are available for half the price of a Model A, but both sirens are generally regarded as being "good". The above claims stating otherwise are false.

My recommendation is the Model A. It’s the classic siren. The F2 has a massive rpm amount and odd sound. Great first time siren buyer pick

I have a Model A and an F-2 in my collection. The Model A is very high quality and loud. The F-2 is definitely louder than a Model A, it hurts your ears indoors. The Model A is high pitched, but pleasant to hear. The F-2 is extremely high pitched, but like I said loud af. So I'ma just say this, Model A for quality, and F-2 for loudness.
