My ex Trojan model 7

Fri Feb 28, 2025 1:30 am

I am the owner of an ex Trojan federal signal model 7. To my knowledge, this is the only confirmed one that is still in existence. It was removed from a fire station in Curry County, sometime in 2023. During the removal, the shroud was destroyed. The rotor is locked up and after many attempts to make the rotor spin, it is still locked up. Here are some images of my siren.

I would try to clean it off and bring it inside or put a roof over it. I don’t think the rain would be good for it. we don’t want it to rust more than it already is. If you can’t, through a tarp on it till you can work on it. Hope this helps!

Just by the way, by what the siren's motor and stator look like, it's obviously a single-phase Model 7B.

I hate to be the one asking the simple questions, but what was the Trojan system? I've heard about it before but never knew where it was located.

It might just be the camera angle, but it looks like the core is shorter than other Model 7s. It it actually shorter?

I'm probably the go-to person to learn about my city's siren history.

To be honest, it looks like a 3-horsepower single-phase motor. So it might be a Model 3B.

There's literally a picture of the badge that states it's 7 1/2 HP and 3 phase... please stop.

How do you know that it is actually ex-Trojan? As far as we know Curry county never received any sirens from the TNPP system. Do you have any photos of the shroud or any tags that were on it? Until you post those I’ll have a hard time believing this isn’t some random 5, there are lots of holes in your claim. It would also not be a Model 7, but a Model 5 by Federal Signal’s convention at the time of installation.
