Question about my Edwards model 315 siren

Thu Apr 10, 2025 6:02 pm

Hello, a few years ago I got a Edwards model 315 siren. Its pretty much just a knockoff model A. Soon I am going to mount it and use it for emergencys in my area. So I was wondering, how long would it be able to run continuously without damaging or overheating it. I'm asking this because I am going to buy an outdoor "smart plug" and I can set it to go off at any time I want, however you can't make a cycle last less than a minute. So I wondered if sounding it continuously for a whole minute could cause issues!

As long as its not an absolute piece of crap (which its not) it can definitely run for a minute. Heck even my MS-390, a literal Amazon siren, ran longer than that. It should be fine.

Alright! I am going to set it on a schedule to sound a minute alert test every saturday at noon! Mine is missing its horn, and I am going to set it up vertically so it can be omnidirectional, and I am going to buy a chimney rain cap and attach it to it so it will be waterproof. Thanks for the help! I am also gonna mount a MS 490 with it. But I am just gonna manually test it right after the other siren if I'm home.

I want to say Federal gives the Model A a 5 minute duty cycle. I don’t believe the smaller motors used in A’s have a fan for cooling so I’d be hesitant to run it longer than that, and give it at least 15 minutes to cool back down.

Okay! I will give it some trail runs before I set up the test. I will probably do the tests manually until I am sure it will work.
