About 3 years ago I saw one of those on the way to san deigo, wonder if it is still there. It was past San Onfree by like 30 miles.

San Onofre (Testing)

Wed Oct 17, 2007 5:32 pm

The City of San Clemente, in co-operation with Southern California Edison, will be conducting their annual test of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station community alert sirens next Wednesday, October 24 from 10 am to noon. There will be three separate alert signal soundings (and vocal announcements at siren sites SC-05, SC-06, SC-07, and SC-08 located near the beaches).

The following radio stations will broadcast information during the test.

* KWVE FM 107.9
* KOGO AM 600

Thanks for posting about this... There's never anything about it in the local papers here in the LA area. I'd be interested in getting down there to see (hear) it if I can! I've never heard an outdoor electronic siren of any kind. I hope they're better than the electronic police car sirens that sound like a toy.

I'm really curious about what happened to the old Toshiba sirens. Were they shipped to Curry County, Oregon, or were those another type of siren?

The story about Curry County's new sirens certainly seems to match the story of the old SONGS sirens. However, I'm intrigued to hear about the diesel generator. Was there an underground vault? Or was there a concrete pad with a standalone genset?
Say NO to excessive siren testing - overtesting desensitizes the public.
Say NO to voice siren systems - multiple origins = unintelligible audio.

It was on a concrete pad, much like a Thunderbolt. Only it had a utility can around the generator and motor, and blower. The can was about the size of a big door opening style At&T can like you see on the sidewalk. It was painted white. Not a genset probably strange Japanese brand with a Kubota motor.

Last I heard, the San Onofre siren test scheduled for today has been postponed due to the fires. Test will be re-scheduled but no word yet on the new date.

That wasn't a blower on the concrete pad ,it was a control cabinet ,and the blower was mounted up top on the metal flange that the Whelens sit on. There was never a diesel generator.

Bumping these topics are unnecessary. If you really want to let somebody know info, just PM them. CABLEVision I believe hasn't been online for a couple years.
