If you want battery back-up I would recommend purchasing a Whelen Omni-Alert series siren with 4 cells (OA-4). It is an omni direction unit and is slightly louder than the 2t22. You have battery back-up and no required AC power except to charge the batteries. Here is literature on this siren unit: http://www.whelen.com/pb/Mass_Notification/OA4.pdf

I can not even begin to understand why I keep looking at this topic! I must be in a trance or something. Ehem, if Jason or Chad could step in here...

I believe so, but it is still quite effective in getting 'the point' across. :D

Self-flagellation?
Same morbid curiosity which causes one to slow and look at auto accidents?
Brain death?
Brain death-wish?

I hope I don't sound mean or upset you, as it's not my intention...

...but if I were a resident of your trailer park and knew you were trying to do this for "us" I would never rely on that siren having heard what you're trying to do with it.

I'd feel better just leaving my TV on The Weather Channel or some station that will interrupt programming with alerts/warnings. Same goes for a battery powered weather radio while I sleep.

Have you ever wondered if your residents would feel the same way? Either do it right and get a siren that's GUARANTEED to work, or don't install one at all.

Good idea!
Yes. I have considered the NOAA weather radios.
Much more reliable and informative, especially if our power fails.
Our power comes from the west. It could be knocked out by a tornado, all of which approach from the west.

But I could envision the radios being sold.
Or batteries being allowed to run dead - just as so many smoke alarms have no batteries or dead batteries.
(We have given away smoke alarms with batteries, later to discover them never installed, or without batteries, or dead batteries.)
Sad but not unexpected.
This thread has evolved from DC motors to AC converted to DC converted to three-phase, to weather radios.
So far, I'm sticking with burying three-phase to the fire station.
By far the cheapest and proven reliable.
