New Baltimore, Michigan Siren 6PM sounding New Video Added

Sat Jan 26, 2008 12:47 am

I had a chance to go and record the 6Pm sounding.
They test this 50+ year old siren Mon-Fri at 12PM and 6PM.
A very well maintain siren. It has a very good "punch" to it.

I could not agree more. To me, it is my "all-time" favorite siren. I can only hope our Model 5 High-Tone sounds again soon.

I've been trying to record this one since the summer.
At least it wasn't windy. I was only about a block away(2 min walk)
I wanted to get closer, but the street was blocks. There was an event tent for something. either they were taking it down or putting it up.

Love that sound. They should of blasted it longer. Reminds me of sitting in my grandparents yard in the Rockfall section of Middlefield at 6PM when their 5 was up (a WS 2008 replaced it in 1994).

This sounds more like a higher horsepower Model 7, than a Model 5. :D

I went back today and rerecorded this siren with my new Sony Handycam.

Why do they do a 6pm blast every night?

They do Mon-Fri 12 noon and 6 pm.
I was told they have been doing that since the 1950's.
But that's all I was told.
I would imagine that it's to notify the people out on the water and on on the farms what time it is.
